Mission Training
We were called to serve in the Texas Houston East mission - John as an Area Medical Advisor (over 10 missions) and I was called as a Nurse Specialist and will be his assistant. This blog will be a fun way for us to document our experiences and share them with our friends and family.
We were set apart on Sunday, September 1st and it was so special to have our family there. The spirit was strong there and there weren't many dry eyes. Afterwards we went to Shauna and Darryl's home for dinner and then said "goodbye for now!" and headed to Provo.
Monday Morning we entered the MTC where we had a great week! There is such a great spirit there - it felt like we were living in the temple for a few days. The highlight was singing in the choir with 1200 young missionaries! We sang "Joseph Smith's First Prayer" and then Elder Martino spoke.
It was so fun to be at the MTC and in Salt Lake with John's cousin Tom Davis - Also serving as an Area Medical Advisor. His wife Sherrie is a nurse and will also be his Spanish translator in Guatemala - they will be a great team! This was our district in the MTC - such great people! John was the district leader.
Left to right is Elder and Sister Voorhees, Elder and Sister Mecham, Elder and Sister Davis, Sister Albright and Sister Flynn. We became so close and felt like we had known each other much longer!
Here is our district with one of our instructors, Sister Anderson.
Elder Hepworth was our afternoon instructor. They were so young but such great teachers!
The next week - Monday, September 9 - 12 we spent in Salt Lake City doing medical training and computer training to get us ready for our callings. We came away from it feeling the love that the Lord has for his missionaries and feeling like we can't wait to help care for them! The church has a great program in place to keep the missionaries safe and well!
After our training we said one more goodbye to our moms and headed back to St. George where we loaded up the car, said one more goodbye to kids and grandkids and headed for Texas!
So great to hear more details of the MTC. I LOVED singing in the choir. Jeff
