Thanksgiving's Looking a Lot Like Christmas!

Image
We are seeing signs of Christmas here - it seems to be what we all look forward to! Some neighbors in our apartment complex have some unique lights. We had to include a photo of this beautiful antique Jaguar! Last week we went looking for an Eddie Bauer store where they were having a sale, and we ended up at this beautiful shopping center - Market Street. Now we would love to go back at night to see it with all of the lights on! The highlight for us was this little restaurant that had great food!  John was happy to have some Crystal hot sauce and the hushpuppies were sooooo good!                           There was some artwork to make us more home sick for New Orleans! On Friday night our ward had a Thanksgiving dinner.  They were surprised to learn that we don't usually have a Thanksgiving dinner at church. John said, "We usually have a ward Christmas dinn...

Service With a Smile!

This photo captures the weather we had last week when we drove a young missionary to a doctor's appointment in downtown Houston. We love getting to spend time with them on the drive. Elder Davis does a lot of driving!! We are a pretty good team - he drives and I navigate. We did have to divide up for the first time this week. John stayed home for a health council meeting via video conference, and I drove a sister missionary to a doctor appointment because it was out of her area. Sadly I forgot to get a photo with her!  This is Elder Knight - such a great young man! I am finding that many of our missionaries that have major chronic health problems like Type 1 Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis or Crohn's disease seem to handle mission life so well. Some weren't sure they would be able to serve, but a place like Houston which has amazing health care makes it possible.  While we were in the area we got our car serviced and went from a white Audi to a bl...

It's A Texas Thang!

Image
We are loving life in Texas, but things are sure different here! This is what John had for breakfast at The Black Bear Diner. I can't embrace brisket for breakfast but John said it was delicious! We also see a lot of tacos and burritos for breakfast but we haven't tried them yet. The Washateria is a new concept for us as well. It makes sense that if you have a cafeteria why not a washateria instead of a laundry mat! I had to put in this photo of the BYU and Liberty teams praying on the field after the game on Saturday, because that is definitely a Texas thing! We often see people saying a prayer over their food when we eat out. We also see scriptures painted on the walls of business or on menus. And when someone hands you your receipt it is often accompanied by "Have a blessed day y'all!"  Have you ever wondered how it would be to spend every minute of the day with your husband or wife? I have heard some people worry a bit about that par...
